Hey! You know what rocks? I'll tell ya what rocks!
Fight Club rocks. This is my new must-see movie of the year. American Beauty can take a hike. A very, very small hike, probably just to the end of the driveway to get the mail, but a hike none the less. Fight Club is absolutely, inexplicably amazing. I say inexplicably because in order to explain why it rocks so hard-core, I would give away the surprise that in the foundation of it's rocking. I can say this: Edward Norton and Brad Pitt both turn in spectacular performances, with Pitt returning to a 12 Monkeys like character, demented and driven, although less comically insane. Norton captures the depression and apathy of a corporate drone with a void in his life quite nicely, with the monotone buzzword-speak and the tired eyes. Helena Bonham-Carter departs from her art-film world to play a strung-out junkie-bitch, but the character is very one-dimensional. The fault in that is the story, not her performance, though. She holds her own against Norton.
Fight Club will make you laugh and think. At the end, you'll be almost desperate to see it again. Check it out.
You know what else rocks?
Scroll mice rock. I just got a Logitech Mouse+, a nice, two-button mouse with a wheel. Simple, lovely, the mouse of my dreams. I'm very happy. =)
Catcha later, homies.

Hey all! Just thought I would make a quick update on stuff, in case anyone was interested. Feel free to be uninterested.
Not homeless, still poor. I now officially live with Colin, my best friend. It's only a block down the street, so not a huge location adjustment, so things could be worse. I guess. Determined to give me a good, solid metaphorical kick in the ribs anyhow, Fate has kept me despondently poor for past 2 weeks. Not a little poor, not "I only have a few dollars" poor, absolutely fucking penniless poor! Safeway STILL has not paid me for my last week of work! I go to work when I'm supposed to, but can the huge corporation be bothered to pay me when they're supposed to? Nooooooooooooooooooooooo! I HATE corporate Safeway.
I saw Double Jeopardy the other day. It was really good. The ending kind of sneaks up on you. I heard people say that the previews give too much of the plot away, but it's still pretty suspenseful. Tommy Lee Jones is, as always, excellent, but Ashley Judd is definitely the driving force of the film. She's got some nice moves in this one, inflicting glorious property damage wherever she goes. She also looks damn fine in a cocktail dress. If you like a little action-drama, go see this one. It flies by.
My new job at White Knight is going swimmingly. If only I could sell something...

Well, after 3 fine years, I've left my Job at Safeway. Unlike some of my other colleagues, I'm not overjoyed by having left. I'm excited about the new possibilities in my life, but I'll never regret having worked at Safeway, or having stayed so long. It was a great job, with great pay, great benefits, and GREAT people. Rob, Dave, Brooke, Suzanne, Kalpna, Noel, Amanda, Anna, Laurie, Pam, Dan, Michel, Wanda, Sarah, Shellley, Bill, Roger, Sharon, Erica, Ryan, Brandon. These are a handful of the dozens of amazing people I had the honor of working with at Safeway. In many ways, it was my first taste or adult life, teaching me the responsibility and respect that were sorely lacking in my youth. For better or worse, the skills of humbling myself before belligerent customers will always be useful, as will the patience and calm that doing so repeatedly breeds.
I'm am proud of Safeway, proud of the time I spent there, and will always be proud to say that Safeway is where I came from. Thank you, everyone.
The new gig at White-Knight seems like it will be a good one, although I've only worked one day. The people seem... unique. In a good way. I'll let you guys know, ok?

This is it: your chance to make a difference, to forever alter the life of one desperate and despondent young man, to bring a glimmer of hope to his fragile soul, and a scrap of food to his empty stomach. ianwallace.com is proud to sponsor HelpIan99.
Ian Wallace, a talented young man, with the hopes and dreams that all young men carry in their hearts, was recently forced out of his home by the most horrendous of circumstances; his parents made him leave. His mother (and we say this in the interest of completeness) was hitting him. Granted, he may have called her some names afterward, but she was hitting him, for crying out loud! Hard! She bent his glasses!
Now this young man is living the hard life of the homeless, drifting from place to place, ever dependant on the generosity of kind strangers. This is no way for a young man to live, scavenging for sustenance every moment, shamelessly masticating at his work desk, gazing longingly at every drive-through restaurant he passes with hollow eyes sunken grimly in their sockets.
YOU can help this young man. The kindly old public interest attorney, Colin "Mordecai" Grosh, has set up a trust in the name of this young man, to ensure that he can provide for himself, purchasing important toiletries and simple lunches, at least until the 20th, when he will receive his first (heavily taxed!) paycheque.
Mr. Grosh, and his handy assistant, Jessica "Creamy" Cyr, will be accepting donations of cash ($5.00 MAX) and Kraft Dinner for this tragically displaced young man until October 20th, 1999. Donations can be made in person, or sent to the offices of Mr. Grosh at:
4623 69th St. NW
Calgary, Alberta

ianwallace.com and the other sponsors of IanHelp99 would like to thank you in advance for your generous efforts to stamp out the misery in this young man's life.
